XLRI Jamshedpur Hosts Kaushik Mitra, CFO of PepsiCo

XLRI Jamshedpur May 30, 2026

An Inspiring Leadership Talk and Book Launch

XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, through its student-led leadership and industry engagement platform Xplore Club, had the privilege of hosting Mr. Kaushik Mitra, Chief Financial Officer of PepsiCo, for a special leadership interaction and the launch of his latest book, The Career Edge: Leadership, Finance & Life Lessons.

The session, conducted as part of XLRI’s MBA Leadership Series, brought together students, faculty, and members of the XLRI community for an evening of reflection, learning, and inspiration. Drawing from decades of leadership experience across geographies, industries, and cultures, Mr. Mitra shared invaluable insights on leadership, finance, personal growth, and career development.

During the session, Mr. Mitra reflected on the formative lessons that shaped his life and career, emphasizing the importance of balancing professional success with personal values. He traced his journey across global organizations and highlighted how leadership is often built through experiences, resilience, and continuous learning rather than through titles alone.

A key highlight of the interaction was Mr. Mitra’s perspective on the evolving role of the Chief Financial Officer. He explained how the modern CFO has transitioned from being a custodian of financial compliance to becoming a strategic navigator and business transformer. He underscored the importance of understanding profit and loss statements, capital allocation, and the broader strategic role of finance, reminding students that “Finance is the language of business.”

The session also featured five powerful leadership lessons drawn from his personal experiences across the world:

  • Adaptability: Sharing lessons from his experience in Dubai, he emphasized the importance of adapting to different cultures and environments rather than expecting others to adapt.
  • Resilience: Drawing from his time in Vietnam, he highlighted how resilience often matters more than brilliance in navigating uncertainty and complexity.
  • The Beginner’s Mind (Soshin): Inspired by Japanese philosophy, he encouraged students to continuously learn, unlearn, and relearn.
  • Trust and Relationships: He likened trust to a bank account, emphasizing that credibility and relationships must be built consistently before they can be relied upon.
  • Values and Integrity: He stressed that values serve as a lifelong compass and that reputation, built over years, can be lost in moments.

The event also marked the launch of The Career Edge: Leadership, Finance & Life Lessons, a deeply personal and practical guide that distills leadership insights from Mr. Mitra’s extensive career. The book offers valuable guidance for young professionals seeking to navigate career choices, leadership challenges, and personal growth.

Speaking on the occasion, students expressed appreciation for the authenticity and candor with which Mr. Mitra shared his experiences, making complex leadership and finance concepts relatable and actionable.

XLRI Jamshedpur extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Kaushik Mitra for sharing his time, wisdom, and experiences with the XLRI community. The institution also acknowledges the efforts of the Xplore Club for organizing the session and continuing to create platforms that connect students with distinguished industry leaders.

The interaction reaffirmed XLRI’s commitment to fostering meaningful industry-academia engagement and preparing future leaders with perspectives that extend beyond the classroom, equipping them to navigate the complexities of business, leadership, and life.
